Description: A spring showstopper the Columnar Siberian Crabapple starts the season off right with a profusion of full white flowers along dark branches. In the early spring the Crabapple blooms along bare branches, once finished this tree will leaf out with a rich green leaves followed at the end of the summer by a small ochre fruit. The Columnar Siberian Crabapple has a distinct growth habit in that it is a tall and narrow tree, growing up to 8m tall and only about 2m wide. in the spring this growth habit gives it the appearance of a pillar of white flowers, through the summer it's narrow nature provides shade without taking up much needed space in the yard. The Crabapple does produce a fruit and that fruit will fall at the end of the year, however the narrow growth habit of the tree means the spread of this fruit is very much contained. In addition to being a lovely stand alone tree, particularly in english or japanese styled gardens, the Columnar Siberian Crabapple can also be used as a good midsummer privacy hedge. Helpful Instructions: The Crabapple doesn't require an excess of maintenance, beyond watching when you prune. If you prune to late in the spring you may cut off the buds of your upcoming flowers; it's better to hold off until after the flower has finished in the late spring ealry summer. Like all trees the Crabapple will benefit from a deep root watering in the weeks or so after planting. To do this you take a hose and leave it running on a low setting around the roots of the tree for 3-5 minutes.
