A striking deciduous ornamental tree valued for its dramatic deep purple-black foliage that holds its rich colour throughout the growing season. In early spring, before the leaves emerge, clusters of vibrant lavender-pink flowers appear along the branches, creating a beautiful contrast against the dark bark and attracting pollinators such as bees. Its compact, rounded form and bold foliage make it an excellent specimen tree for gardens, courtyards, and small landscape plantings.
This cultivar is prized for its intense foliage colour, strong branching structure, and improved cold hardiness compared to many redbuds. It grows best in full sun to part shade and prefers well-drained soil. Black Pearl Redbud is adaptable to urban conditions and, once established, shows moderate drought tolerance. Minimal pruning is required, typically limited to removing dead or crossing branches to maintain its attractive shape.
