A large deciduous shade tree known for its broad, pyramidal to rounded habit and striking exfoliating bark, which reveals a patchwork of creamy white and gray beneath. Its large, maple-like leaves provide summer shade and turn yellow-brown in fall. Its rapid growth and sturdy nature make it ideal for streetscapes, parks, and large landscapes.
Valued for urban tolerance, architectural form, and low-maintenance growth, it grows best in full sun and prefers well-drained soils. Minimal pruning is needed, primarily to remove dead or crossing branches.
