An evergreen shrub valued for its dense, upright growth and attractive blue-green, spiny foliage that provides year-round structure in the landscape. In late spring it produces small white flowers that, when pollinated by a nearby male holly such as Blue Prince, develop into bright red berries that persist through fall and winter, adding striking seasonal colour and attracting birds. Its naturally dense habit makes it ideal for hedges, screens, or foundation plantings.
Valued for its ornamental berries, evergreen foliage, and hardy growth, it grows best in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Once established, it tolerates wind and urban conditions well. Winter protection is recommended in exposed locations: mulch around the root zone and shield from harsh winter winds to prevent foliage burn.
