A deciduous climbing vine prized for its vigorous growth and ability to elegantly cover walls, fences, or trellises. In late spring to early summer, inconspicuous greenish-white flowers appear, followed by small, dark blue berries in late summer to fall. While the berries are primarily for wildlife and not typically eaten by humans, they attract birds to the garden. Glossy green foliage provides summer interest and transforms into striking shades of red and burgundy in fall, creating a vibrant seasonal display.

Valued for rapid vertical coverage, dramatic fall color, and wildlife support, it grows best in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained soil. Its hardy and adaptable nature makes it ideal for walls, arbors, and naturalized landscapes where ornamental coverage is desired.
