Description: #3 gal
Canadian Hemlock has dark green foliage which emerges light green in spring. It will grow to be about 20m tall at maturity, with a spread of 10m. It has a low canopy with a typical clearance of 1m from the ground. The Canadian Hemlock is a beautiful conifer and has soft needles and an open habit of growth. The needles do not develop any fall colour.
This tree performs well in both full sun and full shade. It does best in average to evenly moist conditions, but cannot survive in standing water. It grows at a medium rate, and under optimal conditions can be expected to live for 70 years or more. With its soft foliage and cascading branches it adds a fine and delicate texture to the landscape composition which can make it a great accent feature. In addition, it also makes a great hedge/screening.
Helpful Care Instructions:
This tree will require occasional maintenance and upkeep, and is best pruned in late winter once the threat of extreme cold has passed. Gardeners should be aware of insects that may require special attention.
