A native, deciduous small tree known for its multi-season interest. In early spring, it produces showy clusters of fragrant white flowers, followed by small, sweet, edible purple-blue berries in early summer that are popular with birds and can be used in jams and desserts. In the fall, the foliage transforms into brilliant shades of red, orange, and yellow, providing striking autumn colour. Its naturally upright, rounded form makes it suitable for specimen plantings, hedgerows, or naturalized garden areas.

This serviceberry is valued for its ornamental flowers, edible fruit, vibrant fall foliage, and adaptability to a variety of garden conditions. It grows best in full sun to part shade and prefers moist, well-drained soil. Downy Serviceberry is moderately tolerant of wind and urban conditions, making it a versatile choice for both residential and public landscapes. Minimal maintenance is required, with occasional pruning to maintain shape and remove dead or crossing branches.
