A compact, deciduous ornamental tree known for its deep burgundy-red, tulip-shaped flowers. The blooms appear in early to mid-spring before the leaves emerge and have a rich, dark colour that makes a strong visual impact in the landscape.

This is a slow-growing, rounded magnolia that is well suited to smaller garden spaces and specimen plantings. It prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained, slightly acidic soil. In Ontario, planting in a sheltered location helps protect flowers from late spring frost damage.
