A deciduous, low-growing shrub valued for its dense, spreading habit and multi-season interest. In spring, it produces inconspicuous yellow-green flowers, followed by small red berries in summer that attract birds. Its foliage provides striking autumn colour, turning shades of red, orange, and purple, and its compact, mat-forming growth makes it ideal for groundcover, erosion control, or naturalized areas.
This sumac is valued for its adaptability, low-maintenance growth, and tolerance of challenging conditions. It grows best in full sun to part shade and prefers well-drained soil. Once established, it is highly tolerant of drought, poor soils, wind, and urban conditions. Minimal pruning is needed, mostly to maintain shape or remove any damaged stems.
