A native deciduous shrub or small tree valued for its multi-season interest. In late spring, it produces clusters of creamy white flowers that attract pollinators, followed in late summer by blue-black, edible berries that provide food for birds and can be used in preserves. Its glossy green foliage turns rich shades of red and orange in fall, adding vibrant seasonal colour. The naturally upright, rounded habit makes it suitable for hedges, specimen plantings, or naturalized landscapes.
Valued for ornamental flowers, edible fruit, wildlife attraction, and low-maintenance growth, it grows best in full sun to part shade and prefers moist, well-drained soil. Once established, it is moderately tolerant of wind and urban conditions. Light pruning helps maintain shape and encourages healthy flowering and fruiting.
