A deciduous shade tree with broad, dark green foliage that provides summer interest. In fall, the leaves turn yellow before dropping. Its rounded to oval growth habit and dense canopy make it popular for providing shade in streetscapes, parks, and large landscapes.
This maple is valued for its adaptability, rapid growth, and tolerance to urban conditions, but it is considered invasive in many parts of Ontario because it can outcompete native species. It grows best in full sun to light shade and prefers moist, well-drained soil.
