A deciduous shrub prized for its vibrant red stems that provide striking winter interest. Its medium green foliage emerges in spring and turns reddish-purple in fall. In late spring to early summer, it produces small white flower clusters that attract pollinators, followed by white berries in summer that feed birds. Its upright, rounded growth habit makes it an excellent choice for mixed borders, naturalized landscapes, or wetland edges.
This shrub grows best in full sun to partial shade and tolerates a range of soil conditions, including moist or boggy areas. It is hardy, low maintenance, and effective for erosion control.
