A compact, deciduous ornamental tree known for its fragrant, tulip-shaped flowers. The blooms are a rich reddish-purple on the outside with lighter pinkish interiors and appear in early to mid-spring before the leaves emerge.
This smaller magnolia has a rounded, bushy growth habit, making it suitable for smaller gardens or landscape beds. It prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained, slightly acidic soil. In Ontario, planting in a sheltered location helps protect flowers from late spring frost.
