A deciduous ornamental shrub or small tree known for its dramatic, deep purple–black foliage that holds colour throughout the growing season. In mid- to late summer, it produces airy, plume-like clusters of purplish flowers that create a “smoky” effect, adding striking texture and visual interest to garden beds, borders, or as a specimen plant. Its naturally rounded, spreading habit makes it an excellent choice for architectural interest and focal points in the landscape.
This smokebush is valued for its bold foliage colour, unique flowering display, and low-maintenance growth habit. It grows best in full sun and prefers well-drained soil. Once established, WineCraft® Black Smokebush is moderately tolerant of heat, drought, and urban conditions. Light pruning in early spring helps maintain shape and encourages vigorous new growth.
