Description: Common Lilac is a deciduous shrub with an upright growth habit. It will grow to be about 4m tall at maturity, with a spread of 3m. It has bluish-green foliage throughout the season and produces lilac flowers in mid spring that are excellent for cutting. It is a good choice for attracting butterflies to your yard. This shrub should only be grown in full sunlight. It prefers to grow in average to moist conditions, and shouldn't be allowed to dry out. Its high tolerance of urban pollution makes it a suitable tree for inner city locations. It grows at a medium rate, and under optimal conditions can live for 30 years or more. This shrub is great for general use in ones garden but also works well for a tall and dense hedging and screening. Helpful Care Instructions: This is a high maintenance shrub that will require regular care and upkeep, and should only be pruned after flowering to avoid removing any of the current season's flowers.
